We Made It!!!!

We made it to our hotel, Marriott County Hall, around 10am. They didn't have a room ready for us but, thankfully, we were just in time to sneak in under the radar for breakfast which ended at 10:30. It was really good -  especially compared to the airplane breakfast. AND, very important here, I got coffee!!!!! :)

We decided to walk around and try to check the box on a few things while we waited for our room to become available (the girl at the front desk said they would call us as soon as it was ready). So off we went with cameras and coffee (for me anyway) to see what trouble we could find. Got some nice shots of Big Ben and Parliament but I really think the great ones will be after dark when they're illuminated.

From there we did some walking. We walked through West Minster Abbey and was blown away at the history contained there. Some of the graves date back to the 1300's and before. How crazy is that? No photos were allowed there so I gots nothing to show you on that one. Leaving West Minster Abbey we found ourselves at the back of Buckingham Palace. There were a ton of peoples there so I didn't get loads of pics there either. We walked to Trafalga Square, which didn't do a whole lot for me either. Oh it's a neat place but not one I need to visit again. It's just a cement park with some fountains where people hang out and pigeon watch. Once was enough. Oh and there was a huge blue rooster there they were doing something with. I have no idea what he's supposed to represent.

Walking back in the direction of the hotel we passed by The Red Lion and paused for something cold to drink (Bob got a Porter and I tried a Honey Dew) and rest our tired, weary feet. Mmmmmm, it surely hit the spot. At this point we still hadn't gotten that phone call saying our room was ready so we took a bus tour around the city. We saw the Tower Bridge, Covent Garden, Buckingham Palace and more. Sad to say but the bus ride was putting us both to sleep. The music was horrid for keeping a body awake and what was supposed to be live commentary was recorded. BORING. Thankfully, we got the call our room was ready and were just trying to stay awake long enough to get back to the hotel. Traffic was a nightmare and it felt like it took forever.  But eventually we made it.

After checking in to our room and freshening up a bit, we headed back out to grab some dinner. We were desperately trying to stay awake as long as we could before crashing. It was hard. Long story short, we ended up back at The Red Lion for dinner. Both of us ordered the Fish Pie since pies are what they are most famous for and weren't disappointed. Was good. And the perfect amount. Was a good thing we had to walk back.

Poor Bob gave up the struggle about 30 minutes ago. Journaling is how I'm still fighting it. I really want to see how Big Ben, Parliament and the Eye are lit up after dark. It's about 7:30 local time and I'm about to give up.  As of now nothing is glowing but street lights. Bummer.

That's all for now. Cheerio!!
